Although the definition of healthcare is the preservation of mental and physical health by preventing or treating illness through services offered by the health profession, the essence of healthcare extends far beyond many industries. Healthcare is known as an extremely fulfilling industry to enter, as it involves the care of other people including saving lives.
The healthcare industry is extremely multi-faceted, and in addition to having many career paths to choose from, there are also many sectors of the industry. There are also several different types of work environments to choose from. This can include clinics and urgent care facilities, hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living care, rehabilitation centers, schools or universities, and administrative settings.

Healthcare Administration Jobs
One of the main sectors of the health care industry is administration. Careers in administration can vary from an administrative assistant, which can involve many back-end aspects to ensure the office is running smoothly. Many of the healthcare administration management can include department managers or directors, hospital directors and upper executive positions such as a CFO, CMO or CEO.
Nursing Jobs
Nursing is a very popular career path that many employers are hiring. There are different levels and types of nurses. This includes RN’s or registered nurses, licensed vocational nurses, and LPN’s.
Positions for Physicians
Some candidates choose to obtain their medical degree with the intentions of becoming a physician, also known as a medical doctor. Different types of physicians include but are not limited to the following: anesthesiologist, dermatologist, emergency medical doctors, family practice doctors (also known as general practitioners), obstetricians / gynecologists, oncologists, pediatricians, psychiatrist, plastic surgeons, allergist, urologists, and many other types of specialists.

Related to the healthcare industry are pharmaceutical or health insurance sales, lab and research positions, and the administration end of pharmaceutical or health insurance industries. The need for these types of positions are steadily increasing as well.
